 Choosing the Right Area Rug for the Right Room
If possible, it is great starting point to decorate the room around the rug. Choose furniture and window coverings to compliment the colors and style of the rug. Some general guidelines to follow are:
Dining Room: the rug must be large enough for the chairs to slide back from the table without catching the edges of the rug. A minimum of two feet of carpet should surround the table. The area rug should have an interesting and powerful border.
Living Room: custom rugs with central medallions may be used, but it may be easier to decorate with in overall designed rug. The rug′s medallion is often difficult to center below a coffee table or parallel a fireplace or mantelpiece.
Hallway: a light colored rug can brighten up a dark area, although if it is a heavily trafficked area, you may want to choose a dense, dark colored rug with intricate patterns. Long wide rug runners can be hard to find, so you may want to use a pair of matching custom rugs.
Bedroom: use small to medium sized area rugs around the bed or one large designed custom rug that covers most of the room. Custom rugs make a great addition to a guest bedroom and they are warm and welcoming and being sleeping in a strange room can feel a little cold.
